Kyungwon Desiccant Air Dryer

Operating principle of twin tower Desiccant Air Dryer

Absorption dryers are used when compressed air applications require a dew point at a working pressure below 0°. The regenerative absorption dryer consists of two pressure vessels. Both vessels are filled with adsorbent beads. A tank that removes moisture from compressed air.
Wet gas goes directly through the adsorbent layer to absorb moisture. When this tank is saturated with moisture, the valve will switch and send the gas to another backup tank. During the absorption of another vessel, the first vessel will be regenerated. This is a cyclical process.
The adsorbent medium has a limited capacity to absorb moisture before it must be dried, or regenerated. To do this, the tower containing the saturated adsorbent is depressurized and the accumulated water is expelled.
How this process happens depends on the type of dryer.

  • Heatless dryers  only use compressed air for cleaning
  • Dryers with integrated blower cleaning  use a combination of air from an external blower, heat and minimal compressed air
  • Dryers with built-in lossless blowers  use a combination of air from an external blower, heat and lossless compressed air.
  • Thermal compression dryers  use heat from the compression process
  • Heated cleaning dryers  use heat and a small amount of compressed air

Types of adsorbent particles

Depending on the technology and dew point requirements, there is always the best adsorbent choice, sometimes a combination of multiple layers of adsorbents used in our designs. In this way, we will ensure the required PDP level and maximize the adsorbent particle life.
